"Songs about Jaim" is my attempt to jot down any noteworthy thought, activity, adventure, or interesting anecdote of my existence. Everything I write here is a "lyric" in the 22nd verse of my life. Come sing along by my side as I sail through Ithaka.

Speed of Sound

Weekends go by too quickly!! I don't really have much to write about, but after all the talk about reading each other blogs, I figured I should give you all something to read, even if its boring.

I worked Friday night until 10 and then went home for the usual vodka, Helya and Joanna waiting for me. We found a free ride after Helya yelled at the taxi driver, and went to Mothers. After a bit, we decided to go to Blacksheep for a drink. I asked the bartender if I could get a free Pussy Kiss (the drink, you sickos.. 5 of them-->) because I get them so often, and he said "how about half off?" YAY! Making friends with the bartender is always good :) After that, I don't remember much, but Helya had to put me in my pj's and take my phone away, and so ya, Saturday morning/afternoon sucked.

Joanna and I went to Shell Beach Saturday for some more eyecandy and to cure my hangover. It was BEAUTIFUL outside, and the water looked so inviting. Jo frollicked while I laid on the beach in my new swimsuit with my ipod, watching all the drunk people making fools of themselves.

Last nite, Tim and I went to the midstate fair and wandered around, had a YUMMY strawberry daquiri in a really cool flashing light cup, and listened to Journey. Thanks Tim, it was a lovely night.

Today I slept in and went to Firestones with some guy. ;) Blah blah blah. . . was this post worth reading? Don't worry, I'll be gone every weekend in August doing really fun things, so I'll have lots to write about. Vacation time is finally starting, phew!

GREAT song: Journey- Don't Stop Believing

Just a small town girl, livin' in a lonely world
She took the midnight train goin' anywhere
Just a city boy, born and raised in south Detroit
He took the midnight train goin' anywhere

A singer in a smokey room
A smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on

Strangers waiting, up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlights, people, living just to find emotion
Hiding, somewhere in the night

Working hard to get my fill,
everybody wants a thrill
Payin' anything to roll the dice,
just one more time
Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on

Don't stop believin'
Hold on to the feelin'
Streetlight people

Maroon 5

Yesterday was the opening day of the Midstate fair! I took Helya to the Maroon 5 concert for an early birthday present and we had a blast! Highlight: getting into the fair for the 16 and under youth admission price...then proceeding to the Cabo Wabo bar for a margarita :) Haha finally it pays off to look young. I wore my maroon 5 shirt, and Helya and I sang at the top of our lungs for pretty much the entire show, annoying the crap out of a little 10 year old sitting in front of us with her parents. She kept turning around giving us dirty looks, but stopped once Helya gave one back. HA who goes to a Maroon 5 concert and doesn't sing?! HELLO!

I went in for a consultation with Carlos and he said he will add more blonde to the top of my hair on Tuesday. HOORAY! Now I will hopefully feel much better about spending $125 getting my hair done. Hmm as for the rest of my free time, I've just been hanging out with friends and being lazy. Last weekend a group of us went to Shell beach to hang out. It's actually a really cool small beach where ALL college "kids" go. I had no idea about this until last weekend!! No wonder no one is ever at Pismo, all the pretty people in the world go to Shell, so thats where we're going from now on for some lovely eyecandy.
The Cliffs has a thing on Sundays with a band and BBQ outside and HOLY CRAP what good food!! We didn't get to eat there becuase it was too expensive, but they were BBQing shrimp kabobs, corn on the cob, chicken, garlic bread, ahh it made me weep!!

We d
ecided to go to Mission Grill for their happy hour, and we each got an appetizer for 50% off! Score one for the team! It was quite tasty. The rest of the week I've been watching movies, cleaning, shopping, and playing a little tennis.

La la la la la life is wonderful!

"Embrace this right now life while it's dripping, while the flavors are excellently woesome. Take your bites with bravery and boldness, since the learning and the growing are here in these times, these exact right nows. capture these times. Hold and kiss them because it will soon be very different." -jill scott

"No - we don't want too much, we actually aspire to too little. That's the problem with so many people nowadays. We try to mask our longings for transcendence with quick and easy solutions - materialism, addictions, apathy - and we destroy the eternal spirits within us. What we need is not more willpower to control our selfishness, but to fall in love. Not even so much with others, but with beauty and transcendence themselves. That way, it won't be a question of denying ourselves our true desires, but of recognizing them, and refusing to settle for mere substitutes."

When Something is Broken...

"I dive in at the deep end..." ...and I always drown.

This was the week of being broken. All of the machines at work were broken on Wednesday. My phone broke into two pieces on Thursday. I was literally broke. Cracked serpentine belt. The metal box surrounding my heart has been slightly dented (I thought it was untouchable).

BUT! The machines miraculously repaired themselves and Thursday night was insane. I got a brand new really cool phone with Verizon. YAY! I got paid! Chad fixed my car! Still being a stupid girl, mad at the situations I get myself into, and missing you (or moreso, the thought of you).

Los Oscillators

Rod(s) says, "I am too coolPorn Starto be hanging out with these freaks." (Namely, Dan and Jon)

Los Oscillators field trip to study the Random Walk effect. We are nerds.

Time to Get a Life

After being made fun of for saying "new plant, new Jaime" I've decided to make a list of things that I want/plan to do before the summer is over. Trust me, New Jaime will be an improvement. You will probably fall in love and kiss the ground I walk on (if you don't already) because I'm so damn cute and fun.

Plans:

Maroon
5 concert for Helya's early birthday- July 27th, Mid State Fair (because the MSF is SO COOL). Yes, I WILL be wearing my Maroon 5 t-shirt, and there's a possibility I will be dancing like an idiot.

San Diego Road Trip - Aug 5-7, dinner at Tylia's, hotel downtown, and pretending we are pos
h, rich kids for a night. Celebrating Rachel's 22nd birthday, and having a nice, girly vacation. Vodka anyone? Yes, please.

Bridesmaid Party - August 13,14, Santa Barbara. Heather's Bridal party shopping for Bridesmaid's dresses and pretending we are grown up. How old do you have to be to be considered "grown up" ? Maybe you just have to be taller than 5 feet. Damn
it. Anyway, YAY for being the Maid of Honor.

Cabo - Aug 18-23, First family vacation EVER. Beach, drinks, family, parasailing, shopping. Hopefully getting a tan (finally). Hopefully not getting hit on by mexicans.

What I want to do:

- Lake Nacimiento or Santa Margarita
- Tahoe

- Ride a stupid bike to Jamba Juice

- Beat Tim at tennis (he is the next Pete Sampr
as...I'm already Kornikova, duh)
- See all of the movies that Helya has already seen. (War of the Worlds, Willy Wonka, Bewitched, Wedding Crashers)
- DT SB

- Ride the trolley because it's quaint.
- Go to more concerts in the park

- Drag people who hate Farmers market to Farmer
s market so I can get some more Avos.
- Daydream in Pottery Barn

What I don't want to do but have to:

- Work

- Move out Aug. 31st - leaving my Helya is going to make me CRY.

- Study for the GRE

- Fix my serpentine belt

Cool things I've already done:

-
James and Katie and Mom visits
- Shopping
- DT - Beach
- Carlos dyed/cut my hair and it looks neat.
- Yeah nothing else, I wasn't that cool until today

If anyone else flakes on the SD trip, I'm going to kick all of your asses and then go by myself. Punks.

Raise your hand if you want to see me tap dance.

4th of July

Katie came down for the 4th of July for the second year in a row! We had a really fun time hanging out and enjoying life in SLO. Sunday, when she arrived, we went to dinner at Mothers with Joanna, Chad, and E^2. It took a long time, but the food was half off and delicious! Afterwards we decided to play some cards, drinking games, and eventually strip pool!! It was a very interesting night...and all I gotta say is... TA DA! :) HAHAHA

Monday we went down to Pismo beach to celebrate the holiday. We were on the beach from 12-10pm!! What a nice relaxing day, laying in the sun, walking around and see lots of friends! The fireworks show was INCREDIBLE and made me soo happy!! It was a very successful and exciting day at the beach. I only got a little bit sunburned, so yay.

Katie left Tues morning and I had to head back to reality and work 8 hours :( Boo!!

I decided I'm going to try to do some more new or productive things this summer so I started it off by getting some potting soil and a new pot, and I repotted all of my plants :) My new plants represent a new Jaime. The next thing on my to do list is to either fix my bike or get a new one this weekend and ride around!! I decided i'm not going to go downtown for a week or two (or longer) unless its a special occasion. I need a break for my health and for my wallet!! I'm saving up for our trip to San Diego, for the SB outing with Heather, hopefully Tahoe, and CABO!!!

Well, its almost midnite, and that means I get to go home from work soon! 2 hours overtime baby. :) Tomorrow my boss's wife is having a cocktail party/bbq for us at their beautiful house. So, i only have to work a few hours tomorrow night which will be nice.

I've started researching graduate schools and so far I've looked at Boston University, Boston College, Brandeis University, Northeastern University, UMass in Amherst. I've found some interesting things: BU requires that PhD candidates be able to read scientific journals in either russian, french, chinese, or german by the end of your time there. WOW...that is crazy! Also, some schools require physical chemistry students to know a computer programming language also. Brandeis U has incredible research teams that I am interested in that involve things such as oscillation reactions (like my snr project), fluorescence probes, and thermodynamics/kinetics research. JF asked me what type of research I'd be interested in, so I guess that answers that question. I also like polymer research as well, even though I haven't done any as an undergraduate. Anyway, I'm probably boring most of the people who read these blogs, (if anyone does), but I partly write down this info so I can remember myself.

...And I'm spent!
